Every Klaviyo agency has a nice deck and a "results-driven" tagline. These seven questions cut through it. We answer each one for ourselves too, since fair is fair.
1. "Show me dated dashboard screenshots."
Percentages in a slide can be built from any denominator. A Klaviyo Business Performance Summary with visible dates and Placed Order attribution cannot. If an agency will not show real dashboards, ask why. Ours are published, dates and all.
2. "What does it cost?"
If the answer requires a second call, the price depends on how the first call went. Transparent pricing means the agency charges what the work is worth, not what you look like you will pay. Ours is public: $3,000 to $5,000 per month.
3. "Who actually does the work?"
The person selling you is often not the person writing your emails. Ask who builds the flows, who writes the copy, and who you will talk to monthly. Layers of account managers are where quality and speed go to die. Here, you talk to the founder, and a designer works alongside him. That is the whole team.
4. "What is the difference between a cart abandon and checkout abandon flow?"
The technical filter question. They are different flows with different triggers, and most accounts we audit are missing one of them. An agency that cannot answer instantly, or that says they are the same thing, is going to run your automation on defaults. (The full answer is in our flow guide.)
5. "How often will you send, and to whom?"
Wrong answers: "as often as possible" (they will burn your list) and "once a week to everyone" (they will leave revenue on the table). The right shape: 3 to 4 campaigns a week to engaged segments, with deliverability metrics watched weekly. If they cannot explain engaged segmentation, that is your answer.
6. "What is the contract?"
Twelve-month lock-ins exist to protect agencies from their own churn. Month to month exists when the work retains clients by itself. Ask, and watch how they justify it.
7. "What happens when I leave?"
The account, the flows, the templates, and the list should be yours, built inside your Klaviyo, under your ownership, from day one. If any part of the system lives in the agency's accounts, you are renting your own email program.
The pattern
All seven questions test the same thing: whether the agency is confident enough to be checked. Proof you can verify, pricing you can see, work you can attribute, and an exit you can take. Any agency that meets that bar, us or anyone else, is safe to try for a month. That is the whole point of the bar.
